Sharchen offers a fine selection of rupas, or statues -- representations of non-theistic awakened mind -- of buddhas, bodhisattvas, gurus, yidams (personal deities, and dharmapalas (protectors) of the Tibetan Buddhist pantheon. We stock the more popular figures -- including
Shakyamuni Buddha, Padmasambhava and Tara. We can also have other, less common rupas made upon request.
Our bronze statues are all made using the "lost wax" method. This technique involves a number of steps, which are sometimes done by different artisans. The image is first formed in glistening black wax and then cast in bronze. Sometimes, pieces are formed in especially hard bronze to facilitate intricate finish carving. If gold plating is desired, the technique of "fire-gilding" is used to make the gold adhere to the bronze, at an aditional charge.
